Benefits of Functional Training

Today we will talk about Functional training and why it has become so fashionable, in addition to the great benefits of Functional Training and the enormous user satisfaction that is obtained by doing it.

Functional training is based on increasing the possibilities of action of the person in the physical, social and work environment that surrounds him through the search for optimal muscular performance, through the creation and reproduction of movements and gestures that we carry out in our daily life or sport.

The functional training goals are diverse:

  1. Improvement of physical performance through a specific physical preparation based on movements that are reproduced in the sport carried out.
  2. Specific training to function adequately in work, daily or leisure life.
  3. Injury prevention.
  4. Rehabilitation of injuries.
  5. Improve the muscular chains that we use in our daily lives.
  6. Postural hygiene.

All the features of functional training

  1. Training of physical or motor skills of strength, resistance, speed, flexibility, balance, agility, etc.
  2. Training through multi-joint exercises that involve several muscle groups, and not just one muscle in isolation.
  3. Training of the tonic function in addition to the phasic, since the tonic function is responsible for muscle tension at rest and fixation of the body segments. Therefore it is very important to transmit the forces generated by those muscles with phasic function, which is the one capable of creating movement.
  4. Training of the muscles in charge of stabilizing the body.
  5. Diagonal training / PNF.
  6. Balanced training between strength, flexibility and posture due to the similarity between the movements of functional training and daily life, work or sports.

In conclusion, the fields of application of functional training are:

  • For everyday life: we usually perform ambulation movements, tractions or pushes among others. Therefore, with functional training we will carry out exercises that simulate this type of movement and work the muscles involved in them and develop it properly.
  • For working life: Let's imagine an administrative person who spends many hours sitting down and that could lead to back problems, in which case we would carry out exercises to strengthen the trunk muscles with isometric exercises and to stabilize said muscles.
  • For an athlete: Let's imagine a volleyball or soccer player who performs certain gestures, shots, shots, etc. to optimally practice his sport. With functional training, what is pursued is to strengthen those muscle chains or movements in such a way that we achieve greater performance in the sports field.

Regardless of the reason, practice sports, practice a healthy life.
