KINESIOTAPING SANTA POLA

KINESIOTAPING TREATMENT SANTA POLA

El Kinesiotaping or neuromuscular bandage  (more popularly known as the "color strips"), is a physiotherapy technique where highly elastic bandages are used, transversely inelastic, 100% cotton, with heat-activated acrylic adhesive. The part where the adhesive is located has some s-shaped undulations that make it easier for us to place it as we wish, shorten it, raise it, drain it, etc. Due to their characteristics (thickness, elasticity and weight) they act like a second skin.

One of the most important differences of Kinesiotaping with the rest of functional bandages is that give stability to the muscles and joints but without limiting the movement of the area where we apply it They can get wet, are breathable and can be worn for 4 days or more (according to skin tolerance, although they don't usually cause any problems).

There are 8 application techniques in physiotherapy different depending on what we are going to treat:

  • Muscular: it is applied while the muscle is in tension, but the bandage is never stretched, it is allowed to fall. It is used to relax or strengthen the muscle.
  • Ligament- Tendon: here we do stretch the bandage to place it.
  • Functional joint correction: We put the bandage in motion, we apply it correcting the posture as we are interested. This is the only technique that does limit the last few degrees of movement, which is useful in cases of hypermobility or neurological problems.
  • Mechanical Correction. We place the joint in the position that most interests us and then we place the bandage.
  • facial: we place the beginning and end anchors without tension and the rest with small alternating pulls on the muscle belly. It is used for scars, bruises and/or adhesions.
  • Increased space: the point of greatest pain is located and we apply the bandage in the shape of a star, donut or mesh.
  • lymphatic: It is done in the shape of an octopus, letting it fall on the area without tension. Ideal complement after performing a manual lymphatic drainage.
  • segmental: the skin, muscle, viscera and skeleton are related to each other by means of a spinal nerve. Through the application of the bandage we create an external stimulus, which due to this relationship, we also influence the viscera. Dysmenorrhea, diaphragm, headaches, etc.

When we finish applying the bandage, depending on the chosen technique, some wrinkles usually appear, which does not mean that it is incorrectly placed, on the contrary, these folds are called “convolutions” and they indicate that it is well applied, since lift the skin increasing blood and lymphatic flow.

Effects y benefits of Kinesiotaping:

  • Analgesia.
  • Improves muscle, joint and fascial function.
  • Improve posture.
  • Activates blood and lymphatic circulation.
  • visceral problems

In addition, neuromuscular taping follows the principles of chromotherapy (color therapy), where depending on the color we apply we will achieve some benefits for the body:

  • RED: for subacute and chronic muscle injuries. It is a color that absorbs a lot of light. Tape stimulating.
  • BLUE: for lymphatic and inflammatory lesions: tendinopathies, bursitis, sprains. Relaxing Tape.
  • BEIGE: It has no influence with the colors. It is ideal for treatments with babies. Neutral Tape.
  • BLACK: helps reinforce the other colors. Neutral Tape.
  • FUCHSIA: like red. Stimulating tape.
  • YELLOW: nerve stimulant. Stimulating tape.
  • ORANGE and GREEN: They are used to balance emotions: stress, anxiety, brings peace of mind. intermediate tape

The neuromuscular bandage must be applied having prior physiotherapeutic knowledge for the technique to be effective.
