Treatment for plantar warts (papillomas)
Plantar warts are small benign tumors caused by HPV (human papillomavirus).
There are more than 100 different types of HPV. Depending on the type of that we will suffer the warts in a different area of the body, including the feet.

Plantar warts produce skin thickening, similar to hyperkeratosis, so a good exam will make them treat them on time and thus avoid spreading other people. They are also very painful and may appear more than one at a time.
Most people will have HPV infection at some point in their lives, but usually the body’s immune system fights and may disappear for themselves (of course we do not talk about carcinogenic types in cervix, for which reviews and treatment are needed). The bad HPV is that it is highly contagious and that is why we recommend its treatment.
Contagion can occur in swimming pools, gym showers, house shower … Wet environments are the favorites of this virus (as fungi) and its incubation period goes from a few weeks to even 8 months. They usually emerge when we are low of defenses, which also influences the difficulty when treating it.
Polyclinic of the Rio-Hortega has a podiatry unit where we perform custom treatments depending on the patient, the type of wart, the location and the time of evolution.
